Peak Performance Plus Hormone Replacement Therapy
The Peak Performance Plus Hormone Replacement Therapy Program helps both men and women achieve optional hormone levels. Hormone optimization helps treat conditions ranging from fatigue to decreased sex drive.
Prior to launching the therapy program, our medical staff conducted extensive research and determined that the most effective delivery method is in the form of pellets. That said, because our office uses the pellet delivery method, this therapy is performed by licensed medical professionals only.
What is Testosterone Pellet Therapy?
This is a well-documented method of delivering bioidentical hormones that utilizes small pellets, about the size of a grain of rice, that are inserted under the skin with little discomfort. We’ve found the easiest and best place to insert them is under the skin of the lateral buttocks. The hormones in the pellets are bioidentical and consist of estrogens, and testosterone. Testosterone helps with a number of issues including libido, mood stabilization, brain function, and bone density.
Pellets are synthesized from soybeans or yams. They are either pure estradiol or pure testosterone. Other than a small amount of stearic acid which is common in pharmaceuticals, there are no other ingredients in them. They dissolve completely with no residual under the skin over a 3-6-month period. Even though they are made from soybeans, it’s very unlikely that soy sensitive individuals would have a problem tolerating them.
The pellets are manufactured by special compounding pharmacies. The ingredients (estradiol or testosterone) are pharmaceutical grade. The pharmacy we use has specialized training ensuring that each preparation is formulated with the strictest standards for sterility, according to (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists/U.S. Pharmacopeia) guidelines.
How are Testosterone Pellets Inserted?
The pellets are inserted into subcutaneous fat (fat beneath the skin) of the buttock just below the waistline. To accomplish this, the patient must be lying on their side, the skin is anesthetized with an injection of a small amount anesthetic. After the area is anesthetized, a small 5 mm incision is made. A stainless disposable trocar, is then inserted through this incision. Once in place in the subcutaneous fat, the testosterone pellets can be placed inside the barrel of the trocar followed by a plunger that allows them to be inserted into the subcutaneous fat. Once this is completed, the trocar is removed and the wound is covered by a series of bandages; there is no stitching involved in closing the wound to minimize scaring. The whole procedure lasts 10 to 15 minutes.
How are Hormone Levels Determined?
Your hormone levels are checked before and after your first insertion, and as needed after that. Based upon world medical literature, years of experience, and thousands of patients, we know what levels will usually produce optimal results and relief of symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions
They are derived from soybeans or yams and are biologically identical to human forms of estradiol and testosterone. There is also a small amount of magnesium added to the powder to help it flow better during the pellet making process. The pellets are specially manufactured by select compounding pharmacies using strict manufacturing standards. The pellets are completely biodegradable under the skin leaving no residue whatsoever.
What can I expect the pellet hormones therapy to do for me?
The quality of life given back to every man or woman is second to none. You may experience any or all of the following.
- Increased energy levels
- Restoration or an increase in sexual drive
- Consistency in moods – no more roller coaster effect
- Relief from anxiety and depression
- Decreased body fat
- Increased mental clarity and focus
- Greater capacity for getting the body in shape
How often will I need them inserted?
It depends on the person, but anywhere from every 4-6 months
Are there any side effects and/or complications?
Unlike other forms of hormone therapy, there are very few side effects and they are usually transient. You could get some breast discomfort, nipple tenderness and rarely a pellet site could get infected or the pellet could come out. With the testosterone pellets in women, there are occasional incidences of increased or darker hair growth or mild acne, but these issues are generally minor and easily managed.
I get horrible headaches and migraines; will this help me?
Yes! Subdermal estradiol pellet implants have had great success in dramatically reducing hormone-related migraine headaches.
Why doesn’t my doctor suggest hormone pellets as an option?
More than likely they were never trained on the use of bio-identical subdermal hormone therapy. Also important is the fact there are no drug company sales representatives speaking to doctors on a regular basis about pellet therapy since the US Patent Office considers bioidentical hormones natural, regardless of their source and as a result, they cannot be patented.
How long will it take for the pellets to get into my system and work?
Twenty-four to seventy-two hours but results and symptom relief are almost always seen within 3 to 4 weeks.
